The Artist’ State of Mind

Does the state of mind of the artist influence in the final result of his work? I would say so. States of mind change depending on the moment, the circumstances and also the feelings produced by everything surrounding the person and the inherent ones, either momentary ones or deeply rooted ones.

All these feelings the artist perceives, are internalized and appropriated when working either consciously or unconsciously, and that “influence” in the state of mind does not make a difference between the topics of the work to be done. With this I mean that if the artist (a painter in my case) is immersed in a topic… Africa, for example (that continent in which terrible horrors are taking place), and if during that period the artist decides to execute some “more relaxing” works in order to rest from the pressure of those images expressed in the canvas, even if those other works are romantic and alternate in time, they will also be hard, as hard as the topic which has captured and still captures the mind, and that will continue until the artist decides that the topic he has devoted to in body and soul is already exhausted; and he will not rest until he gets out all those paintings his mind has already painted.

And I shall finish these reflections as I started them: the state of mind of the artist, though unconsciously, influences the final result of the work.
